‘Blade Runner 2099’ May Be an Amazon Exclusive, But Its Lead Cast Will Take It Everywhere Right Now

Blade Runner 2099 Might still be a bit of a mystery project, but it just starred Michelle Yeoh, so I’m already interested in it.

Amazon began developing a Blade Runner sequel series back in 2022, and we haven’t heard anything more about it since. Silka Louisa, who previously served as a producer and writer on Paramount’s “Halo”, will now serve as writer and executive producer of the show, with original film director Ridley Scott serving as executive through Scott Free Productions Producer. Now, according to Variety , we know who the star of the show is: Michelle Yeoh. The iconic actor has apparently been cast in the lead role, a character named Olwen who was reportedly described as a replicant towards the end of her life.

Variety writes that Amazon declined to comment on specific character details, so maybe take it with a grain of salt in case it turns out to be wrong/the writers change their mind at some point. There aren’t any concrete plot details yet, but with Michelle Yeoh as the lead and where her character could potentially go, I’d definitely be interested in checking it out. Michelle Yeoh is undoubtedly one of the best actors in the industry, having starred in classics such as “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and ultimately winning an Oscar for her performance in last year’s “The Good Luck.”

In terms of live-action, “Blade Runner 2099” will serve as a sequel to the original film and its sequel “2049”. In fact, independent publisher-turned-developer Annapurna Interactive is developing a game “Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth.” Announced at last year’s Annapurna Interactive Show, the game is set between the classic film and the year 2049, where you play as a Blade Runner and follow the events of the animated film Blackout 2022, which begins with a The terrorist attacks ended up affecting Tyrell Corp and Replicant production.
