Cult developer Blizzard Entertainment is known for its successful brands such as Diablo, StarCraft, Overwatch or WarCraft – but another new IP is to be added in the future and also cause a sensation.
Blizzard did something surprising on the in-house website today confirmed work on a completely new game. According to offici al informati on, this will be a survival game in a new universe; the new title is not based on any of the well-known big brands and completely rebuilds its own world.
“Blizzard begins our next great quest. We embark on a journey to a whole new universe that will host a brand new survival game for PC and consoles. A place full of unborn heroes, full of tales untold and full of adventures we… will experience yet. A huge world full of possibilities that is just waiting to be explored,” says a first description of the otherwise nameless game.
Why did Blizzard announce the game now? Primarily because the responsible development team still needs reinforcement and in the course of this a number of positions have been advertised. The new employees should belong to the art, design and engineering sub-areas, with management positions such as lead software engineers also needing to be filled.
What other snippets of information are currently available? At least two artworks were released along with the announcement, which you can view as part of this announcement. One shows a sort of ranger with a skull headgear and light armor in a world; there seems to be some kind of portal across from her. This could pave the way to a more modern world seen on the second artwork. There, two teenagers cavort in the light of a modern-looking city, who obviously could stumble into a fantasy world.
It will probably be some time before a further announcement of the “Unannounced Survival Game” is made. It’s Blizzard’s first all-new IP since the launch of Overwatch in 2016. However, Studio Head Mike Ybarra seems completely convinced of the project: “I’ve played many hours of this project with the team and I’m incredibly excited about the Vision of the team and the brand new world it presents to pull players into together.”
