Honestly, I think the run-up to Diablo 4’s first season is going to be an even more exciting, anticipation-filled time. Season of the Wicked is a new type of season for Diablo, and it looks like the season after the modern live service game.
It has its own battle pass, which adds new content for all players and builds on the game’s narrative. While Blizzard has received some criticism for retaining traditional mechanics, such as needing to create a new character to experience a new season of content, there’s still plenty of chatter surrounding the first season.
Unfortunately, it didn’t last. Blizzard just released patch 1.1, the biggest patch yet for Diablo 4. Many thought their grievances would be resolved since launch, but it ended up causing a huge backlash. The patch rather harshly attempts to slow down player progress, nerf all classes, devalue some crutch stats, flatten various XP/grind curves, and somehow make life worse for wizards.
With the response so negative, Blizzard is hosting an emergency developer stream this Friday to explain the intent behind its changes and address player feedback.
But while Blizzard has fixed a bug introduced in 1.1 (which, given the rest of the patch, players believe was intentional), the developers haven’t given up on any bigger changes–except for what appears to be this.
One tweak that wasn’t even mentioned in the 1.1 patch notes was the addition of a strict level requirement to enter tiers 3 and 4 of the world. Previously, players could take on an apex dungeon when they were ready, and then upgrade their game to the next world tier.
However, after 1.1, new minimum level requirements were added, 40 for world tier 3 and 60 for world tier 4, as reported by Icy Veins. This means, you can’t go into and beat the apex dungeon required for this upgrade, so you can’t actually level up until you reach the required level.
This only applies to new characters, which probably means it’s meant to affect the seasonal characters everyone will create once the season of Viciousness kicks off normally.Nevertheless, it is one Change Blizzard is coming back.
Responding to the Icy Veins story, Diablo global community lead Adam Fletcher confirmed that the level requirement would be removed, but gave no further details.
We are removing the Tier requirement for World Tiers 3 and 4.

We’ll likely hear more about this (and other potential changes) in this Friday’s campfire chat. Until then, make sure to take this step before embarking on your seasonal journey.
