Blizzard is reportedly taking another stab at developing a StarCraft shooter, this time with former Far Cry producer and director Dan Hay at the helm.
That’s what Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said in an excerpt from his upcoming book, Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, which was discussed on the IGN Unlocked podcast.

IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey brought up the quote and mentioned that the game in development would be Blizzard’s third attempt at making such a game, before asking Schreier if we might actually be able to play it at some point. . Pointing down the line.
“If it’s not canceled,” Schreier replied, “this is Blizzard after all. They don’t have a great history with StarCraft shooters. Yes, as far as I know, it’s a project in development, Or at least there’s a StarCraft shooter in development as I write this, and StarCraft isn’t dead at Blizzard.”
He then went on to add: “The goal of the book is not to get a bunch of scoops about what’s going to happen. That’s not the purpose of the book at all, it’s mostly to tell a story and focus on what’s already happened, but it’s Feels like an interesting and useful nugget, because it really tells you that Blizzard can’t quit the StarCraft shooter, they just can’t say goodbye.”
The final point also references a line from “Brokeback Mountain” and mentions NBA stars Chris Paul and Amar’e Stoudemire.
As mentioned, if accurate, this would be the third time Blizzard has developed a StarCraft shooter, with two previous attempts ending in cancellation. First there was StarCraft: Ghosts, which was in development back in 2002 before being scrapped in 2006, a decision that Blizzard Games co-founder Mike Morhaime regretted having to make, and then there was a game codenamed Project God of War ” game, it bites the dust in 2019 and Blizzard can focus on Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2.
Will the new game reportedly in development suffer the same fate? Only time will tell. If you missed yesterday’s news that StarCraft Remastered and StarCraft II Campaign Collection are coming to PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tiers, let us know how eager you are to see it actually become playable game. .
