snowstorm I just can’t help but make some confusing changes to Overwatch 2, and the latest one is coming, which will give every hero a passive healing ability.
I’m not an Overwatch expert. I’ve put in a few hours and I’m doing okay, but I’m not one to understand all the details. That said, the idea of adding a self-healing passive skill to the game, even for a support character whose express purpose is to heal teammates, feels a little strange to me. Blizzard explained the upcoming changes in a recent blog post, sharing that in Season 9, “tanks and damage heroes will both receive modified, toned-down versions of their passive abilities that support self-healing. This should give More help from non-support players.” Maintain your options.

“This should also take some of the pressure off support players to keep everyone alive, as individual players now have more control over their own health. In Overwatch, there is a balance between the power of the team and the power of the individual A constant tug of war. Individual heroes or players. Changes like this shift the balance a little bit. It’s something we’re constantly evaluating. We still want Overwatch to be defined by team strategy and mechanics, but we feel like we can hold off on that a little bit for now , and maybe there will be more in the future.”
According to Blizzard, it’s all done in the name of teamwork. The post notes that it introduced the Ping system and the Spawn Together system to help players work better together, with the latter apparently being tweaked in Season 9 to “make the effects more prominent.” The Self-Healing Passive is an attempt to answer the question “What happens when your team doesn’t work well together?” I know some players (looking at you, Moira mains) can prioritize damage over healing, but to me, this sounds like a change that will hinder support players from doing their jobs. But hey, that’s just the humble opinion of a Fortnite player with a relatively short time in the game!
Overwatch 2 Season 9 does not yet have an exact release date, but it is expected to be released in February. In the meantime, you can jump into a limited-time quick-play version called Hacked, but you should do so as soon as possible because it ends today.
