The new remastered versions of Warcraft I and Warcraft II feature new hand-drawn visuals, and players can switch between old and new graphics in real time. These remasters bring a lot to the table, largely due to the pristine quality of Warcraft III: Reforged. The game was plagued with problems at launch, including bugs, matchmaking issues, visual issues with the overall refreshed aesthetic, and a controversial clause that stated that any custom maps made in the game were owned by Blizzard in perpetuity, without the need for a license. You have to understand that DOTA was originally a custom map for Warcraft 3, so the company made sure they didn’t accidentally end up with a massive new game that wasn’t theirs. Still disgusting!
It would be great news for Blizzard and retro Blizzard RTS players if these improvements solve a lot of the problems, and it’s something both sides can do. These games were fundamental to the PC gaming scene at the time, so it’s definitely a good thing that they’re getting some quality modern love. We got to see what they were like!
