Event news BlizzCon: The 2021 edition is canceled, a hybrid edition in early 2022

In August 2020, Blizzard announced the cancellation of BlizzCon, which was replaced by a BlizzConline that took place last February. While the health situation in the USA is slowly improving, the publisher does not want to take any chances.

In one new press release Blizzard, posted on the official website, explains that the constant evolution of the situation has led to it the decision not to revamp from the classic BlizzCon at the end of the year. In other words : BlizzCon 2021 is canceled. From the situation in California to the arrival of fans from all over the world, organizing such an important event cannot come without guarantees.

(…) We wanted to let you know that we decided not to host BlizzCon this year. Building a regular BlizzCon is an epic and complex affair that requires many months of preparation, not just for us, but also for the many talented production partners, esports professionals, presenters, artists, and performers. Other employees (…). The complexity and persistent uncertainties associated with the pandemic have impacted our ability to move forward properly on many of these fronts. Ultimately, we’ve got to the point where we can develop the type of event we’d like to create for you in November, says Saralyn Smith, executive producer at BlizzCon.

The next BlizzCon will therefore take place in early 2022, with a slight difference to the fully digital February edition. The event template will be mainly based on that from BlizzCon, More small gatherings should be able to be organized to enable the fans to meet. Further details will be disclosed as the months progress and the organization progresses.
