What have fans been looking forward to Blood Bowl 3! The predecessor may not mean anything to many people, but gosh, what’s so much to love about Blood Bowl 2. Similar to Europa Universalis 4, busy Warhammer football coaches have been sinking thousands upon thousands of hours of play here for years. But you’re not building an empire, you’re building the perfect ork football team, for example, to send it onto the pitch against vampires, imperials and skaven.
So Blood Bowl 3 doesn’t really have it that difficult. Better graphics, a few new features … but the reality is probably different. With mostly negative
Why is Blood Bowl 3 getting such negative reviews?
The criticism of the game can be summarized quite well: Blood Bowl 3 seems unfinished. Contrary to original announcements, developer Cyanide deliberately spoke out against early access and, after beta phases, launched the game as a full version on Steam on February 23, 2023. Here you can see very well what to expect:

Blood Bowl 3 shows how tough it can get on the fantastic football field
But Blood Bowl 3 feels – according to the critic ism – like a clear step backwards. The AI is worse than in the predecessor, all team members look the same, in terms of team diversity, performance, technology and Co. nothing is going smoothly here. Steam user Seik is representative of most of the Steam community:
Unfortunately, the game is in such an inadequate and unfinished state that you have to issue a clear buy warning. Only the graphics have improved compared to Blood Bowl 2. Everything else, but really everything, has otherwise gotten worse and sometimes even significantly:
– AI: complete disaster.
– Game menu: due to being forced to go online and poor server performance, content is not loaded or only loaded very slowly.
– Solo content: moderate campaign, solo leagues against AI over several seasons are not possible!
– Team Diversity: 12 teams, but ultimately only 9 really different. Orcs and Black Orcs… Seriously!?!
– Graphics: all characters of the same classes look absolutely identical.
– Shop: Customization options are very expensive because, for example, a purchased helmet can only be given to one player. Equipping a full crew would cost about 5,000 Warpstone ($50). The cheapest items cost 0.75 dollars each player has six pieces of armor.
– Bugs, bugs, bugs: Game freezes. Menus are not loading. Results are not counted. AI hangs up or acts so badly that any random routine would give better results. I never would have thought possible that the AI could be even worse than in the predecessors.
Especially the real money shop pours oil on the fire for many fans. Blood Bowl 3 needs – so many votes – months to be patched in a state that justifies the purchase price of 30 dollars. The few positive reviews emphasize that a first patch has already addressed some problems. But Blood Bowl 3 is still a long way from pushing into an above-average positive rating area.
