Bluetooth 6 is the further development of the already very modern Bluetooth 5.3 standard. We reveal here what innovations await us and when the whole thing could become reality.
- Bluetooth 6 could be presented as early as 2023 and installed in the first devices.
- The Bluetooth interest group is working, among other things, on the introduction of the 6 GHz frequency band for Bluetooth.
- Improvements in the area of distance measurement and latency are also being worked on.
Bluetooth has become an indispensable part of our everyday life. The radio standard facilitates communication between cell phones and accessories such as headphones or smartwatches. Since its introduction in 1999, Bluetooth has continued to evolve. The last major leap in version dates back a few years. Bluetooth 5.0 was announced back in 2016.
Bluetooth 6.0 has been a long time coming since then. But the wait could soon be over. It is possible that the new technology will at least be presented in 2023. It is currently still unclear whether new devices with the radio standard will also appear this year. But there are already some rumors about the innovations.
Bluetooth 6: Funken in 6 GHz schon in 2023?
The biggest innovation that Bluetooth 6 will probably bring with it: Similar to WiFi 6E, there will probably be the possibility of sending Bluetooth signals over the much more powerful and faster 6 GHz frequency band. This is accompanied by higher data throughput and lower latency, which the Bluetooth interest group SIG is probably also working on separately.
With Bluetooth 6, a more precise distance measurement similar to that of ultra-wideband (UWB) could also be possible.
