At the CES in Las Vegas, BMW is showing a new form of in-car entertainment. Thanks to Amazon Fire TV (you shouldn’t plug the stick into a USB port, by the way) and a 31-inch screen, the car becomes an 8K cinema. At the push of a button, the so-called My Mode Theater orchestrates an interplay of a retractable 32-inch display, vehicle darkening and lighting mood.
The heart of this special form of the drive-in cinema is a 31-inch smart TV in 32: 9 format that extends out of the headliner via a mechanism. The lowering of the screen is accompanied by a sound specially composed for the occasion by Hans Zimmer.
It is operated using control elements embedded in the doors or by touch directly on the screen. Depending on the content, the resolution can be up to 8K. 4K content is mainly streamed via an integrated Fire TV from Amazon via 5G radio. It is also possible to play back the photo or music collection.
BMW wants to integrate the cinema experience in future models of the brand. The manufacturer has not yet given a time frame. Other car manufacturers are also increasingly focusing on improving interior comfort. The US manufacturer Tesla has its own theater fashion.
