Boltgun poses a question: what if a boomer shooter uses Warhammer 40,000 Bolt?

It’s safe to say that we’re witnessing a renaissance in indie shooters. Trying to recreate or even surpass that of a particular brand of shooters from the 90s. Or, as the community calls it, baby boomer shooters.

If you’re willing to forgive some etymological nonsense, you’ll find plenty of satisfying shooters on Steam and elsewhere, so it’s time for Warhammer 40,000 to join the pack.

Earlier today, during the Warhammer Skulls showcase, Focus Entertainment and Auroch Digital introduced us to bolta ’90s-inspired retro shooter with all the sprite-based gore, chunky models and punchy sound effects you’d expect.

We know very little about Bolter, other than that we’ll be playing a Space Marine battling the forces of Chaos – pretty standard Warhammer 40,000 setup. Unlike many retro shooters inspired by it, Bolter has some athletic abilities such as running, jumping, and charging. Of course, you’re using a Bolter and a chainsaw sword.

The game is unveiled with the help of a very nostalgic trailer, where adult Jamie opens his toy box from 1999. You see, it has a Bolter’s floppy disk (and other Warhammer 40,000 gear).

Bolter is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch, with a release planned for sometime in 2023.
