Gaming News Borderlands: Despite the film’s flop, the company’s big boss sees the glass as half full
Did the failure of the Borderlands film adaptation damage the reputation of the Borderlands license? Strauss Zelnick claims that it is exactly the opposite; The film would have been much more useful than anything else.
The lesson from the Borderlands movie
I speak for IGN: Take-Two’s CEO explains that the failure of the adaptation did not harm the video game franchise. He says he learned a fundamental lesson, namely the difficulty of transferring intellectual property to another medium.
According to him, Strauss Zelnick already emphasized at the end of the publication of the reviews on the specialist websites that he was aware of this problem and that the results clearly confirmed the risk associated with the adaptation of a video game license.
So, This adaptation will be the last. Strauss Zelnick said that he had no plans for further film adaptations and wanted to concentrate on the BioShock film. After this project it will be over, we will no longer talk about films or series.
Fortunately, the damage associated with the failure of this adaptation is limited: International pre-sales enabled 60% of the production costs to be reimbursedbut we are still a long way from full reimbursement.
[…] The results of the film will have no impact on (the company) or the Borderlands franchise […]
[…] So I don’t think it did any harm at all, in fact I think it may have helped a little. This highlights a point I’ve talked about many times, namely the difficulty of transferring our intellectual property to another medium.
Borderlands 4 is getting a facelift… It’s coming!
Despite all these setbacks, the Borderlands license is not letting this bitter failure get it down: Borderlands 4 is coming. After multiple nods from Randy Pitchford, the father of the license, the fourth episode is in development.
Take-Two’s CEO even told IGN that according to the company’s financial results Borderlands 4 is still planned for 2026. He also used this interview to emphasize this Mafia: The Old Country is scheduled to be released later the same year and 35 more games are planned until 2027. And as for Grand Theft Auto VI, you should know that there clearly won’t be any trouble: the next Grand Theft Auto is still planned for fall 2025.
Take-Two is doing well and the film has not damaged the company’s reputation in any way. Strauss Zelnick even exudes self-confidence, which is reassuring! He then emerges from the experience stronger and will never repeat the experience, at least not after the BioShock movie, as we were able to point out just before. Phew, we’re usually spared an adaptation of GTA…
