Battlefield 2042 has managed to emerge from the release catastrophe as a significantly better shooter with its 3 seasons so far. True, the title still suffers relatively low player count on Steam, but the mood in the community has now improved significantly. We also recognize in the post-test that the game is at least on the right track:
Battlefield 2042 im Test-Update
A lot has changed in 12 months – but not everywhere
With the forthcoming update 3.2, the developers want to make up more ground with the fans and take BF 2042 a step closer to its predecessors with the return of the classes. Now there is brand new information about the contents of the update.
First things first: the release
DICE is not yet revealing an exact release date for Update 3.2. But since it had been spoken of before, it in January to publish, the time frame remains quite small and we can expect the announcement and release in the next few days.
The class mechanics in Update 3.2
The developers had repeatedly adjusted the plans for the return of the classes in recent months. But now there is the final information on what the new system should look like with Update 3.2. However, the company is still open to changes should it become apparent that some aspects still need fine-tuning.
The four classes
As usual with Battlefield, we will be able to choose one of four classes. The specialists are divided among these and will in future belong to one of the classes:
- Assault (Mackay, Dozer, Sundance, Zain): Can be found on the front line, taking out enemy infantry at close range. As an Assault you (unsurprisingly) storm enemy targets and disable their defenses.
- Engineer (Boris, Crawford, Lis): Are essential for the success of the vehicles. They build defensive positions, repair allied vehicles and destroy enemy vehicles.
- Provisioner/Medic (Falck, Angel, Irish): Assist your allies in all tasks by supplying ammo, suppressing enemy attacks, and healing your teammates.
- Reconnaissance (Paik, Caspar, Rao): Avoid the frontal attack and rather look for flank positions for yourself and the team. With their equipment, they disrupt enemy systems and share information about enemy positions.
Weapon Perks
Weapon selection is not limited within a class. As an assault soldier, you can still take a sniper rifle with you if you wish. However, so-called weapon skills are intended to ensure that a type of weapon that suits the class’ playstyle is particularly worthwhile by making it stronger for this class. The following weapon skills are available:
- Assault: Have three additional magazines for assault rifles
- engineers: Improved accuracy with machine guns while prone or crouching
- Carer: Faster drawing of submachine guns
- Spotter: Able to calmly aim sniper rifles instantly and continuously
Gadget Selection
While weapon choices are not limited, some gadgets and gear will now only be available for certain classes, and you’ll always have class gear with you:
Klassen | class gear | Class Gadgets | thrown weapons |
---|---|---|---|
Assault Soldiers | medical pen | smoke launcher OTHER-Panzerplatte C5 explosive M18 Claymore |
Splittergranate Smoke Grenade Concussion Grenade throwing knife Brandgranate |
Pioneer | Tool | Anti-tank mine M5 recoilless FXM-33 FA-Rocket FGM-148 Javelin EOD-Bot C5 explosive |

An important rework
In addition to the big highlight, there is another important improvement: the update comes with a heavily revised version of the Upheaval map, which throws you onto an icy battlefield. Terrain and capture points have been extensively adjusted to provide a smoother gameplay experience. For example, you can get to the oil rig much easier, which moves closer to the rest of the map and gets additional climbs. In addition, a new ice shader provides a chic look.
What’s next?
After the release of Update 3.2, Season 4 is said to continue on February 28th, bringing the last specialist (a scout), as well as a new map and more weapons. What we know so far about Season 4 is summarized in one article:
