Every employee in Germany gets a certain number of vacation days that he or she can use. However, these differ from company to company. The legal minimum requirement is currently a total of 20 days – four weeks per year.

But if you use your vacation in the weeks when public holidays you can benefit from far more days off and, for example, convert four vacation days into nine days off.

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day on March 8th is a public holiday in Berlin. If you include this in your vacation planning, you can take nine days off with four vacation days.

Easter

Easter Sunday falls on April 4th in 2021. If you use your vacation days skilfully around Easter, you will get up to 16 days off using just eight vacation days.

Ascension, Pentecost, Corpus Christi

Ascension Day (Father’s Day) is on May 13th 2021. Whitsun Monday awaits us eleven days later on May 24th, followed by Corpus Christi on June 3rd. If you use your vacation days efficiently during this period, you will benefit from up to 17 days off when you use nine vacation days. In the following we show you the possible combinations.

World Children’s Day

World Children’s Day on September 20 is a public holiday in Thuringia. Those who live in this state can look forward to nine days off with just four days of vacation.

All Saints Day, Day of Repentance and Prayer

Nowadays the day of repentance and prayer only exists in Saxony. Here, employees can look forward to up to nine days off if they use four of their vacation days.
