During the closed beta of the MMO New World, which has now ended, reports of defective graphics cards caused a sensation. Certain RTX-3000 models from the manufacturer EVGA were particularly in the focus. EVGA has now ruled out a suspected cause of the problem via Twitter.
What New World is still missing from the point of view of our editor Petra Schmitz in terms of play, you can find out in her column on the game:

Im said tweet it is about the speed of a fan that is said to have unintentionally got out of hand for a short time. EVGA has now announced a firmware update in the tweet and only speaks of incorrectly read data.
“No connection with speeds”
Andreas Schilling from the website Hardwareluxx.de asked for his part via tweetwhether the information on the firmware update would also rule out the theory of a problem with the speeds. The answer from EVGA employee Jacob Freeman confirms this:

The abbreviation »RPM« stands for »Revolutions per Minute«, ie for the number of revolutions per minute of the fan (not to be confused with »Rounds per minute«, ie shots per minute – thanks to our reader AlleB for the friendly reminder in the comments).
A Report from Igorslab.de had shown that the GPU-Z tool briefly reported extremely high speeds when playing with an EVGA model in Anno 1800. According to EVGA, however, the in-house “Precision” tool filters out the incorrect values without a firmware update.
The investigations are ongoing
Freemann also says in his answer to Schilling that EVGA is continuing to investigate what exactly led to the defective cards. Only a very small percentage is affected and corresponding models are still coming back to EVGA, which are used to analyze the problem. Should there be any new information, you can find out about it on GameStar.de as soon as possible.
The release of New World itself was postponed by a month at short notice. The new date for the publication is now September 28th. You can find out more about the possible reasons in the article »New World: Shortly before release now postponed for the third time«.
