There have been rumors about a new Brothers in Arms for some time now and quite a few people would be keen on it. And this dream could even come true.
Brothers in Arms was certainly not one of the worst war shooters of its time. With extensive cover mechanics and tactical elements, the series found a lot of fans. Road to Hill 30, Earned in Blood and Hell’s Highway were particularly convincing. Although a few iOS spin-offs followed, there hasn’t been a major title in the series since 2008.
For years there have been rumors that Gearbox is working on a new part of the series and these have now been confirmed by Randy Pitchford himself. He commented in a Interview im Epic Games Storewhich mainly focuses on the Borderlands movie and the game series, as follows:
“With this approach, we’re able to do several things, including a new Brothers in Arms game that’s been in development for a while but we can’t talk about yet.”
“This approach” refers to a change in the studio structure that will make it possible to work on several projects at the same time. This is the result of the fact that previously, due to the success of Borderlands, other projects had to be put on hold, including Brothers in Arms, which had a special significance at Gearbox as its first own brand.
“It was painful that we had no choice but to give up our energies on Brothers in Arms in order to be able to focus successfully on Borderlands,” Pitchford said. “There were enough people who loved it and wanted more of it, and we loved it and wanted to give it more, but that didn’t change the fact that there are only so many hours in a day.”
Pitchford continued: “There is a moment when we are ready and can and will announce something, because that is the moment to make a public promise. We work a lot on Borderlands. We work on a lot of Brothers in Arms. We work on every IP. I mean, we just launched Homeworld 3, and that is still being worked on. And then there is Risk of Rain and Duke Nukem [den Film] and much more.” Seems like Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands falls under “more” for now and currently seems to have lower priority than a possible Borderlands 4.
Doesn’t sound bad, does it? Would you be up for a new Brothers in Arms?
