If you played Guild Wars 2 on the weekend of May 9-10, 2020, you will probably be annoyed. Because the developer accidentally deleted the progress of all players on the EU servers over this period and to the level of the previous Fridays reset. This is particularly annoying as there is currently a limited time event taking place.
Rollback due to an error
In contrast to a similar event in 2016, where progress was only reset by a few hours, the current rollback was by no means planned. In order to investigate the problem, the developer Arenanet has the servers of the MMORPG temporarily shut down.
The maintenance work was originally supposed to last only ten minutes. As of May 12, 6:00 a.m., the European servers are already Unavailable for over eleven hours. So far there is no announcement when you can play again. The cause of the problem is also currently unknown.
Maintenance on the Guild Wars 2 EU servers is still progressing. We appreciate your patience as we work on this, and we'll continue giving you updates as we're able.

Do you get your progress back?
Understandably, players are currently concerned about whether they will get their progress back. The studio has not yet made any statements in this regard.
It is quite possible that your weekend accomplishments irretrievably lost are. At least real money transactions should be safe, however, as they are also documented in the form of invoices.

The game community also hopes to receive compensation. Whether and how ArenaNet the players compensate for this problem is, however, not yet known. Many also wish that the current super adventure boxing event would be extended as a result.
In addition to the current rollback, the game is making progress again. After the Guild Wars 2 developer had a major layoff in the past, the team quit unexpectedly this year the third major addon that will lead you back to Cantha.
