ROBOT LAWN MOWER

Instead of ordering a ready-made garage, many robotic lawnmower owners decide to build one themselves. We give you step-by-step instructions for building a robotic lawnmower garage.

A garage protects the robotic lawnmower from the weather once the work is done.

  • Robotic lawnmower garages are the perfect way to protect your robotic lawnmower from the weather between uses.
  • Building your own robotic lawnmower garage is easy and inexpensive compared to buying a ready-made garage.
  • A YouTube video from the mail order company Otto shows step by step how it works.

Who would have thought: Garages are not only available in large sizes for cars, bicycles or motorcycles, but also in mini format for robotic lawnmowers. A robotic lawnmower garage is highly recommended so that the devices are well protected from the weather on their charging station before they are used again.

Many people rely on ready-made products, which can often cost 50 dollars or more. So why not just build a garage yourself? We’ll show you step by step how easy and quick it is.

Build your own robotic lawnmower garage: explained step by step

So that you don’t have to come up with a design and the exact steps for your robotic lawnmower garage yourself, the well-known mail order company Otto has provided a video lasting just over a minute in which the materials required and the construction steps are explained in simple terms. In this video, Otto shows how to build a simpler version without side walls, which also has a gravel bed on top. This can be planted or decorated in other ways. Of course, you can also just do steps 1 to 7 and leave out the bed. Below we have summarized the materials and tools you need.

Material:

  • 4 short squared timbers, 40 cm long (as legs)
  • 4 long squared timbers: 2x 77 cm and 2x 70 cm long (as edges for gravel bed)
  • 2 square wooden boards, 71 x 71 cm
  • Weatherproof wood varnish
  • Small pebbles
  • Dachpappe, 71 x 71 cm
  • stain

Tools:

  • Cordless drill
  • Brush and glass
  • Tacker Gun
  • saw

In the following picture series, we have broken down Otto’s instructions into individual steps for you, so that you have a quick overview of the work steps and nothing can go wrong.

Collect your materials in one place so you don’t have to search around when building the underground car park.

s2.jpg

Cut two of the rear squared timbers down to about 35 centimetres so that the roof will have a slope later. You can cut the timbers a little more diagonally to make it easier to screw them to the roof.

Now use the brush to paint all the wooden elements from all sides and then let them dry.

s4.jpg

Paint the wood with a weatherproof paint of your choice.

s5.jpg

Screw the four shorter squared timbers, which will serve as legs, to the base plate. Make sure the squared timbers are aligned correctly if you cut the rear legs at an angle.

s6.jpg

Now screw the charging station of the robotic lawnmower to the base plate. Only use the existing screw holes provided. If your charging station does not have suitable holes, you can use an adhesive instead – but this should not be too strong so that you can remove the charging station later if necessary.

Now screw the roof panel onto the legs. Make sure it is in the correct direction.

Attach the cut roofing felt to the roof panel using a stapler gun.

Now screw the remaining four square pieces of wood onto the side of the roof panel as shown to create an edge for the gravel bed.

Finally, fill the roof with gravel.
