It’s release day Destiny 2: Haunted Season, we’ve already seen a lot of content, such as a bunch of exciting new weapons, an explorable Leviathan, and a new dungeon coming on Friday, May 27th. However, it was the Solar 3.0 rework that caught the attention of the community, especially Warlock players who were excited to discover their newfound flick melee ability.
In the video embedded below, you can see each class perform a number of new or updated solar abilities as they burn waves of enemies. We only see the flick of a finger, the cremation of a bunch of bundled enemies, but that’s all there is to sparking tons of posts, discussions, and of course, jokes on the Destiny 2 subreddit.
The flashy finger guns in this new melee skill first caught the community’s attention as a particularly stylish and somewhat magical way to set fire to enemies. Some Japanese media fans were quick to point out the direct comparisons to a certain alchemist, while others drew comparisons to the Bioshock series and our favorite purple big boy Thanos.
Others put their talents to use in Photoshop or their pens and brushes to humorously portray Warlock’s absolutely melted foes, who unfortunately manage to linger in their path. There’s something about clicking your finger and setting the world on fire that seems to have struck a chord with Warlock players! That’s years of grinding god rolls, filling their vaults with junk, and mental damage that’s objectively worse than the Titans, regardless of the outcome of the recent Guardian Games.
But if we step back a little bit, there must be a reason for so much excitement in the air around these 3.0 redoes. The Void was loved by a lot of people when it first launched earlier this year, but it does make all the remaining vanilla damage types feel a little bad. Overall, the snap, and all the flashy and tough new abilities, mark a continued evolution from the old Destiny 2 and current title era, with Fire being the latest addition to the fold. This is Arc 3.0, because playing arc characters feels particularly rough right now compared to the shinier, more exciting alternatives.
