Call of Duty is “the best-selling franchise on PlayStation”… Modern Warfare 2 Xbox Case Says

bestselling, Call, case, Duty, franchise, Modern, PlayStation, Warfare, Xbox

it’s no secret call-of-duty is one of the best-selling franchises of all time. According to the latest official tally, the series has sold more than 425 million units – meaning it has been surpassed only by games like Mario, Tetris and Pokemon in the all-time video game sales hall.

Is Modern Warfare 2 really like The Last of Us? Well, yes, kind of.

But it’s no surprise when you have Infinity Ward, Gray Matter Studios, Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games, Raven Software, Neversoft, High Moon Studios, and Beenox, and any other company Activision sent to the CoD salt mine, right? For over a decade, releasing nearly one game a year has been a surefire way to boost sales.

However, despite knowing that the series is one of the best-selling game series on modern consoles, due to the Canadian version Modern Warfare 2 Physical Xbox Edition.

According to a post on the r/XboxSeriesX subreddit, the Canadian physical version of the latest Call of Duty title has a mistranslation or typographical error on the box that replaces “Xbox” with “PlayStation” on the back cover. So, in the Xbox version of the game, the flavor text on the casing reads: “Best-selling franchise on PlayStation.” oops!

Of course, it’s true — CoD is the best-selling franchise on PlayStation. It’s interesting to see the marketing message on the Xbox version of the game (especially when you consider CoD’s current tricky position in the Activision/Microsoft acquisition deal, and PlayStation’s doubts about how CoD will be handled after the merger).

Embed below, you’ll see a twitter user working in the Canadian store confirming the typo.

Aside from the unreliable translations and physical versions, Modern Warfare 2 looks like a hit with Activision. Modern Warfare 2 is Call of Duty’s biggest Steam release ever, and it’s doing just as well on consoles.
