It was recently one of the gaming industry’s worst-kept secrets, but now there’s official clarity: This year Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will expand the shooter series.
After a lot of speculation in advance, Infinity Ward has now officially confirmed this year’s Call of Duty together with publisher Activision Blizzard. This is – now not surprisingly – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This will be a sequel to the Modern Warfare reboot released in 2019.
The sequel to the shooter series, which will be released for PC and consoles, is expected to open in autumn and concrete details or a detailed presentation are still pending at the moment. The two companies only presented the name of this year’s part and the logo via Twitter.
In this context one speaks of “a new era of Call of Duty” and showed at least a small teaser clip. This also features the logo of Task Force 141, the international Spec Ops unit that was also the focus of the original 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Activision reportedly showed the new game behind closed doors to select prospects in Las Vegas as part of the ongoing NFL Draft. A public presentation of the game should be expected shortly.
