And the multiplayer reveal Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Will be on a different date, we did get some information today at the worldiwde campaign.
According to various previews, the game will feature a revamped gunsmith with more customization than before, allowing you to upgrade multiple base weapons that belong to the same family.
New gadgets will be available, including a live camera that you can operate remotely to see if there are enemies nearby. Another piece of equipment is a DDoS device (thanks IGN) that discharges EMP charges to stop enemy equipment and vehicles. There’s also a Drill Charge, which you can throw on walls or vehicles. After it drills a hole in the target, you can throw a grenade into the hole.
With Modern Warfare 2, you can expect enhanced rendering, photogrammetry, and some rather swish-looking water segments, which the trailer teases. Speaking of water, IGN’s preview says to look forward to new and updated water physics, as well as the ability to use knives and pistols underwater. While weapons experience resistance, especially bullets, new devices in the series adjust when used in water. One such device is a decoy that, when inflated, mimics a soldier swimming with a drawn gun.
In terms of modes, there will be at least two new modes: Knockout and Prisoner Rescue. The former is a turn-based mode, and the latter lets you either rescue prisoners or prevent them from being taken away. In both modes, if all your teammates are eliminated, you lose the round.
Other things to look out for is the larger lobby mode, which can accommodate up to 64 players to a 6v6. The ping system will return, this time out with more communication options. The sliding mechanic also returns and has an extra movement that allows you to dive into the ground.
You can also look forward to plenty of free post-launch content with new maps, modes, and special events.
If Modern Warfare 2 is more your thing, tune in tomorrow (June 9) for the opening show of Summer Game Fest, where we hope to see longer campaign missions.
More multiplayer details, and of course footage, will come in due course.
Modern Warfare 2 is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on October 28. Those who pre-order will get early access to the open beta on PlayStation.
