Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has hit the ground running like no other part of the successful shooter series – and that’s saying something. A new Battle Pass system should now ensure even more leaps of joy among the fans.
Activision has announced a new Battle Pass system for the immensely successful shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and for the Battle Royale offshoot Warzone 2.0. Compared to the format used in many games, they want to change the typical structure and rely on non-linear progress rather than fixed levels – and that can be an advantage for players.
What does that mean specifically? Instead of you unlocking rewards at each pre-defined tier, you’ll be able to choose which unlocks to work towards.
For this, a map with several sectors is introduced; in total there are 20 sectors on the map, each with five items per sector. You can then decide on a specific sector and unlock the loot there first if it suits you. You can then continue sector by sector – the order and thus the rewards to be unlocked are in your hands.
With the new Battle Pass system, players want to be given significantly more freedom, which benefits both users of the free and premium versions of the Battle Pass. If an unlock is particularly important to you, you can visit the relevant sector and in the worst case you don’t have to gamble to the end of the Battle Pass stages.
However, you fight your way through the sectors with Battle Pass tokens; how these are activated in detail has yet to be confirmed. Whether and how the basically good new system works depends essentially on this decision by the developers. Clarity on this should prevail next week when a new blog entry reveals more details.
Finally, want a taste of what you can earn through the Battle Pass? At least four new weapons have already been confirmed for the first such offer:
