Call of Duty made an appearance at Summer Game Fest yesterday, but the next installment in the shooter series wasn’t announced as hoped. Instead, Activision focused on Season 4 for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 – and this one has it all.
From June 14th next week, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will start the new Season 4 – and it will bring more new content to the shooter than ever before. A new, medium-sized Warzone map, six brand new multiplayer maps, new weapons, DMZ improvements, a new vehicle and more await you.
The focus of the new season is the Battle Royale map “Vondel”, which is also partly the scene of the competitive multiplayer maps mentioned. Vondel is the waterfront of a European baroque city and will launch with three supported modes including Resurrection, DMZ and the brand new mode – Lockdown. The traditional battle royale begins mid-season. In Lockdown, you earn points by capturing and holding zones on the map. A game should last about twice as long as a traditional position match.
Other innovations in Season 4 at a glance:
-
New Resurrection Features – The “Dynamic Resurgence Timer” is available in all Resurgence playlists and automatically adjusts the respawn time when one or more team members leave the match. When a teammate is killed, the “Nemesis Icon” (enemy icon) shows the approximate location of the enemy operator for a short time.
- New items and new event – Drive on both land and sea with the new four-person Tactical Amphibian Vehicle. Complete objectives in the “Assault on Vondel Launch Event” to get the “Favorite Supply Box” which grants you the weapons that are part of your favorite gear and the “Reinforcement Flare” (reinforcement flare) that you can use to bring back fallen team members. Then, midway through the season, you can bolster your defenses with the High-Capacity Plate Carrier.
- New Public Event – “High Stakes”: Grab fallen crates to earn double weapon and player XP for the duration of the match, which stacks with other XP bonuses.
The new multiplayer maps:
- Showdown (default map, at release): A faithful recreation of the map originally featured in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Showdown includes a central courtyard surrounded by a two-story building and an outdoor area. Anyone attempting to cross the courtyard will encounter fierce resistance from enemies shooting between the arching pillars. However, some cover on the ground gives you some chance to counterattack. The outdoor area is perfectly designed for long-range combat with its long, narrow lanes, with locked metal gates to the north and south preventing players from running through.
Pay attention to the entrances to the inner courtyard: two flights of stairs lead up. The upper floor is also directly accessible via the metal gates outside, you just have to climb up there. It’s important to be flexible with this map, as you often have to quickly switch between melee and ranged combat. Operators made for the long line of sight and tight corners of the map are the easiest to achieve victory here.
- Kunstenaar District (default map, at release): Located between the stadium, the police station and the Vondel Museum, the Kunstenaar district is a medium-sized bohemian area with murals adorning the walls of shops and houses.
The classic three-lane design of the map guides operators through the narrow side streets and across the central square. Tight interiors allow access to the three main routes, and a canal along the west side of the map allows players to bypass the dangerous main staircase without being seen. However, watch your head as you return to the main road as it offers no cover and is prone to being targeted by enemy snipers. Use the Shadow Company trucks and other nearby vehicles for cover as you move forward to attack.
- Firefight Maps “Mercado” (Market) and “Penthouse”
- Mawizeh Marshlands and Ahkdar Village Battle Maps
Rounding it out are the four new weapons “Tempus Razorback” Assault Rifle, ISO SMG, Tonfa Melee Weapon and the new Shotgun, as well as new Operators who are the infamous Masked Nikto and Ana Vega, Io (via BlackCell). .
Another multiplayer standard map will be added via update mid-season. A new Season 4 Battle Pack is available for Plus members on PlayStation starting June 21st, featuring an Oni Operator skin as a highlight.
