The professional player Shifty is accused of cheating. To prove his innocence, he faces a lie detector test in the live stream. However, the live broadcast ended in a debacle and had to be stopped.
Professional player Shifty has been under suspicion of cheating in tournaments since March. There was a tournament in Call of Duty: Warzone, where the prize money of 100,000 US dollars was up for grabs. Shifty’s declared goal during the tournament: set a new kill record and bring the victory home together with his colleague Hisoka.
Something like that naturally draws attention and people look very closely at how the two professionals achieve their goal. Another pro player, Blazt, who indirectly accused Shifty of cheating on Twitter. After that, the eSports community NRG also got involved and offered the professional to take a lie detector test to prove his innocence once and for all.
On April 5th the time had come. Shifty and NRG got together and put on a stream event. In this, the professional gambled a few rounds of Warzone before he faced the lie detector. But before the result was released, the team at NRG ended the stream, leaving viewers questioning.
But what happened? John Grogan, who had worked on some reality formats such as Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Beauty and the Geek, was invited as an expert. Even then, it was not considered particularly credible, and so criticism was raised in the Twitch chat and the question arose as to how much one could put on this lie detector test if one got an expert who was considered not to be credible.
When you noticed that the mood in the chat was changing, you quickly decided to show a pause screen. Shortly thereafter, the stream went completely offline and the video on demand was deleted immediately. Shifty even released a statement on Twitter shortly thereafter, saying he wasn’t particularly comfortable releasing the results of the test.
NRG offered the professional to do a second lie detector test and pay for it. It is uncertain whether this will come about.
