Call of Duty’s next three games are still coming to PlayStation – report

since Microsoft announced intention to acquire Activision Blizzard, one of the hot topics that everyone is talking about is related to call of Duty: Will Xbox make it launch on PlayStation consoles? Will Warzone remain multi-platform? Will it stick to annual releases?

A week after the original acquisition press release, we may now have some preliminary answers to at least one of those questions. A new report from Bloomberg says Sony and Activision have reached a contractual agreement to release the next three Call of Duty games “at least” on the PlayStation, something Microsoft will have to abide by with or without acquisitions.

Last week, we heard Sony make a statement that it expects Microsoft to abide by its existing “contractual agreement” with PlayStation, which it is no doubt referring to.

This will likely mean PS5 and, for some time, PS4 versions of the game will have to be available as well. It could also mean that Warzone, as an existing community, will remain on the PlayStation platform for the foreseeable time, and receive any updates related to new games launched during the period covered by the contract.

Bloomberg believes that the first of the planned Call of Duty games will be Infinity Ward’s next game, possibly another Modern Warfare game, launching in 2022. After that, games developed by Treyarch are expected to launch in 2023.Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier also tweet Warzone 2 may be planned for next year.

So what happens once this contract period ends? We can look at what happened before to find out. Microsoft has previously honored pre-existing contractual agreements; Arkane’s Deathloop and Tango Gameworks’ Ghostwire: Tokyo have both been confirmed to remain PS5 exclusives despite the company’s acquisition of Bethesda/Zenimax. However, Microsoft later claimed Bethesda’s sci-fi role-playing game Starfield was its own. Can we see something similar happening with CoD? It’s not impossible.

If you’re wondering what this industry-shattering mega deal can bring to Xbox, we’ve released a list of the dream games we’d like to see from this acquisition, from World’s Edge’s new Warcraft RTS to Tim Schafer’s Spyro the Dragon, you can read it now!
