Back in February 2022, Capcom finally announced street fighter 6 It is true. The Japanese publisher didn’t give us much content, but it did make fun of it We have to wait until summer 2022 to know more information.
Here we are after about four months: our first impressions of Street Fighter 6. In a new State of Play stream hosted by PlayStation, Capcom shows us when we finally get the game in our hands, based on a previous CGI trailer.
The game is coming to PS4 and PS5 in 2023. Xbox Series X/S and PC (via Steam) were also announced as target platforms for the game.
In the trailer embedded above, you can see returning characters like Chun-Li and Ryu, who also have familiar moves and brand new techniques. We’ve heard of “secret art” (looks like special moves) and seen the art style of the fine title. It’s very smooth and sometimes looks painterly, with smooth graphics representing more powerful movements.
You might recognize “The Future of Street Fighter” and the “main part” of Street Fighter’s new direction Luke in the trailer: he’s the last DLC character for Street Fighter 5, arriving in November 2021, and has been a street fighter Overlord’s poster boy new game since the first teaser trailer (embedded below).
It also helps the game look good. We already know that the RE engine is a godsend for Devil May Cry and Monster Hunter – so it’s reassuring to see the publisher flex its graphics muscles again for the fighting game.
Will this gameplay allay the fears of series veterans? It remains to be seen. Our own Alex mused earlier that year that Capcom had to get Street Fighter 6 right, not just for the series’ 35th anniversary.
As long as the game doesn’t make you wait 30 minutes, if you dare to restart the save, I think we’ll be fine.
Between this and Riot Games’ mysterious Project L, the next year or so will be a very interesting year for fighting game fans. Fighting game crown battle begins.
