We have been picking a large number of independent gems over the past month, and today is no exception. Our recommendations may not be as much as last week, but they are delicious. let's start.
Popular indie games of the week on March 9
Assembly carefully
You may remember one of Apple Arcade's first games, "Assemble Carefully." This is also the latest game from Monument Valley maker Ustwo.
Developers announced this week that "Assemble with Care" will be the first PC version to be released on Steam on Thursday, March 26. "Assemble with Care" is a puzzle game with a clever display.
You spend most of your time repairing radios, cameras, and other everyday equipment for people; try to flip them in various ways, and separate them when trying to determine why they don't work. Of course, you also need to put them back in place, which can make things tricky.
As the story goes deeper into the character's attachment to objects, and sometimes how we find the right solution to shelter something, "Assembly with Mind" will become more interesting. Ustwo's iconic artistic style and music will make it difficult to pull away, even if you are in trouble.
It can be sold for as low as $ 8 and you can list it instantly on Steam.
Biped
It seems we are witnessing a revival of the style of local cooperatives. The success of Overcooked (and many of its similar products) just indicates that the enthusiasts of local cooperatives are growing, and developers are beginning to invent interesting scenarios that may cause two partners to shout at each other.
Biped is the latest game from NEXT Studios and has created a variety of experiences so far. In Biped, each player controls a cute little biped robot. The controller's analog joystick or left / right mouse but ton maps their respective legs.
The trick is that two players must work together to navigate the game world and solve game puzzles. This style of cooperative puzzle game is certainly not unique to Biped, but the addition of interdependence and limb control brings a new dimension to the experience.
Biped announced its release date this week. It will be released on Steam on Thursday, March 26. PS4 and Switch are also under development.
Games to play this weekend
Earth Defense Force
Earth Defense Force is a series we rarely talk about on VG247. Not only that, of course, but EDF is a particularly weird creature that has both incredible easy to sell and impossible to sell.
Earth Defence Force is not exactly an independent game, but it is completely different from most games. In essence, this is a game about shooting giant alien bugs. Sometimes you do it with a jetpack or mech, and sometimes you just don't like the rocket launcher.
What makes the Earth Defense Forces (any of them) different is that it does not meet any of the design sensitivities we expect for modern games. EDF has always been in the bubble, and sometimes it feels like its manufacturer has never really played any other video games.
It's full of confusing menus, constant confirmation dialogs, and feels like a stacked UI made with Excel. It has a video game problem that was solved ten years ago. But, oh my god, once you really master it, your eyes will flicker like you would a video game for the first time. If you like action games that don't care about outdated concepts such as maintaining frame rate goals, disregard stories or narratives, or even want to hire a voice actor who sounds better than a studio intern, then EDF is yours game. And, if you don't, then its ridiculous and bold is well worth the experience for yourself.
From now until Monday, the series will be sold on Steam. These are mostly historical lows, so it's a good time to see the light. The $ 10 "Earth Defense Force 4.1: Shadow of New Despair" is a great way to get into this alien franchise, but EDF 5 is also discounted.
