Acquisitions are becoming more common in the gaming industry, but Cyberpunk 2077 Developer CD project red It’s nice to be independent.
Several companies have poured money into acquisitions over the past few years, from Microsoft and Activision Blizzard to the slew of studios acquired (and later shuttered) by Embracer Group. However, in an interview with Parkiet, former CD Projekt Red CEO and current chief strategy officer Adam Kiciski addressed recurring rumors that the studio is looking to be acquired (translated by VGC).

“These are just rumors. We have always had a clear position and it is supported by what is stated in the regulations,” Kiczyski said. “We are not interested in being folded into any larger entity. We have worked our whole life to get to where we are. We believe that in a few years we will be bigger and stronger. We have ambitious plans and a strong commitment to what we do We do things with passion. We value our independence.”
You could also rule out CD Projekt Red itself making any kind of acquisition, as Kiciski continued: “We are not currently planning any acquisitions. Of course, we are open to ideas that can accelerate the implementation of our strategy… but we are open to those We are not interested in acquisitions that are solely aimed at bringing the acquired company into our group and consolidating its financial performance. We do not see the value in that.”
It’s a reassuring sentiment, whether it’s not wanting to be acquired or not wanting to acquire anything per se. To put it very lightly and politely, it’s a bit disappointing to see all of these companies consolidating, as it just makes the industry a little too uniform (not to mention that certain companies have too much control over the development of the industry). At least we won’t have to worry about companies like Sony adding a live service element to The Witcher 4 whenever it launches.
