CES in Las Vegas – that meant enormous numbers of international guests for a long time. In 2021 everything will be different (again). Organizers, journalists and exhibiting companies are faced with the sharp rise in Corona cases of the Omikron variant in the USA.

Many companies have canceled their visit and moved to the virtual. The Netzwelt editorial team – a regular guest at the fair at normal times – has also canceled its visit to Las Vegas. None of this means that there is nothing new from the desert. All the gadgets, cell phones, televisions, cars, they are there – only partly in virtual form.

Electric “1-liter car”: Mercedes shows the visionary EQXX

Mercedes-Benz could not even wait for the official start of the trade fair and presented the Vision EQXX research vehicle in advance. Thanks to sophisticated aerodynamics, the electric car is stingy when it comes to power consumption. Converted to the combustion engine world, it is only around one liter of “fuel”, according to the Stuttgart-based company.

Mercedes Vision EQXX - should create a range of up to 1,000 kilometers. That corresponds roughly to the route Paris - Berlin.

Inside there is a grotesquely large “hyperscreen” with mini-LED technology. It is uncertain whether the vehicle will ever go into series production. Tests on the road will follow soon. And – after all – battery technology, which is lighter and more efficient, will soon also be used in small electric cars with the star. We introduce you to the Mercedes Vision EQXX here and show you pictures of the interior.

Sony also builds electric cars – and VR headsets

Sony also used the CES as an opportunity to add an electrically powered SUV to the Vision-S prototype presented in 2020.

Sony now has two electric cars named VISION-S 01 and S 02.

For many customers, however, the next details on the PlayStation VR2, the VR headset for the PS5, which Sony announced at the CES, are likely to be more exciting.

With the PlayStation VR2 you no longer need separate cameras thanks to “inside-out tracking”. The resolution increases to 2,000 x 2,040 pixels per eye, the field of view to around 110 degrees. The best comes for last: In the future, you will only need a single cable to connect the PS5 and the headset. Here you can find out more about the VR2.
