Amazon’s MMO New World has been running for over three months. But now an extremely frustrating problem for gamers is emerging: Aeternum is overrun by bots. Numerous players report in forums that the starting areas in particular seem to consist only of bots that fish all day long in order to quickly farm levels.

The developers stated in a statement that they were working on the problem, but for many it was not going fast enough. Instead, at Christmas time, bot hunting became a popular pastime and the methods became increasingly creative. Yet the first bots now actually reach the max level – even though, according to players, they have already been reported several times.

Bot slowly reaches max level by fishing – and no ban?

There are numerous reports on Reddit of automated bots being unleashed by players on fishing spots. One post followed the progress of a bot that had been standing in the same place for weeks and that nothing could be disturbed by anything. Eventually the bot reached level 55 and was only 5 levels short of the maximum level 60.

Numerous users recognize the bot immediately and state that they have already reported it several times in order to obtain a ban – apparently unsuccessful. According to users, doublenarr, the bot can no longer be found as of today – so it is possible that it was finally stopped.

Nevertheless, other players post that high-level bots are also in the same fishing spot on their servers. Apparently one of them even has already reached max level 60. One user reports that the servers currently “consist of 30 percent bots.” Of course, it is difficult to determine whether this is true. Nevertheless, the posts show the frustrated mood that is spreading among the players.

A problem that Amazon should get a grip on as soon as possible. But her colleague Petra believes that it could already be too late for that. In her column, she explains how New World could fail for her:
