ION Lands has announced Cloudpunk, a peculiar Ciberpunk proposal that will offer something unique. Its launch has been confirmed for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Its developers have talked about the title in the official blog PlayStation and has left us with long teeth.
«When I joined to help Marko (our project leader) create the history of Cloudpunk, I had the best opportunity that can be offered to a writer! I was presented with a beautiful voxel world that the player could fly or explore on foot, and Marko had only one job for me »comment Thomas Welsh writer and narrative director of Cloudpunk.
As Thomas comments, The game will be inspired by Firewatch, Disco Elysium and Kentucky Route Zero, so the starting point is very interesting. As we can see in the trailer, the proposal is the most colorful, in a city called Nivalis. Cloudpunk offers some difficult moral options for the player, options that will change the lives of people living in Nivalis forever.
The main plot of Cloudpunk continues the ordinary life of the Rania dealer during her first night shift in the city. The developer says that it was his decision to make the game take place in a single night, since he is passionate about the titles (both film and video games) that carry it out.
Nivalis stretches high in the clouds and sinks in the waves of the ocean. It's full of neon and noise, full of jazz and synth-pop, and it's almost always raining. While you explore Nivalis at night, your outdated Cloudpunk call controller accompanies you and your only friend is your AI Camus dog, whose personality has been downloaded in your flying car.
You will also meet many more characters during the night. Characters like BlockFourOh, a band of robots chased by the authorities due to their urban renewal projects. OR Dolly, a pop superstar who has been replaced by a double android. Then this Huxley, a PI robot that is malfunctioning and can only speak with clichés. Or maybe you meet Gorgothoa, a poorly functioning elevator that believes it is the reincarnation of an old and meat-eating God.
There are no shots or fights in Cloudpunk, nor are role play statistics, or unlockable skills or powers. Instead, Cloudpunk is about the city you explore and the characters you know. You'll also look for rare collectibles to deliver, such as "cartridges" of old video games to sell on the black market, or digital tapes that contain the deleted memories of your android neighbor.
Life in Nivalis is hard, but you can only reach the light of day if you establish new connections with the strange inhabitants of this great city.
We do not know when this title will come to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC since it is currently scheduled for release in early 2020, but it must be recognized that it looks great and that its independent proposal perfectly complements other cyberpunk games such as the expected Cyberpunk 2077, more focused on the action and AAA role that will not give us Not a breath.
