MOVIE REVIEWS

The film “Cobweb” premiered in Cannes, starring “Parasite” star Song Kang-ho and K-pop singer Krystal Jung from the band f(x). We’ve seen the film and will tell you if the film is worth it!

Cobweb: The New Movie by Quranic Director Kim Jee-woon

Actor Song Kang-ho (“Parasite”) is at the Cannes Film Festival for the fourth year in a row. Last year he received the award for best actor for “Broker”. This year, however, his film “Cobweb” is not part of the competition. So there’s no chance of an award, but that doesn’t make the film any less worth seeing.

On the contrary! “Cobweb” is one of the highlight films of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It was directed by cult Korean director Kim Jee-woon, known for films such as ‘A Tale of Two Sisters’ and ‘I Saw the Devil’. In addition to Song Kang-ho, K-pop star Krystal Jung and Jeon Yeo-been from “Alienoid” will also be there. “A Tale of Two Sisters” star Lim Soo-jung also has a starring role.

“Cobweb” is about a director (Song Kang-ho) who wants to make a movie in South Korea in the 70s. Many obstacles are put in his way and nothing goes as it should. He is always driven by proving himself to be a genius.

When films are made about the film industry, they are either declarations of love for the cinema like “The Fabelmans” or complex psychological dramas in which our protagonists stagger between genius and madness and do everything for the arts like “Boulevard of Twilight”. . “Cobweb” is both!

Kim Jee-woon manages to inject his favorite horror elements into the film while creating an immensely funny, cynical and darkly humorous film. His style is clearly recognizable and anyone who knows his films like “Bittersweet Life” knows exactly what to expect.

A Tarantino-esque atmosphere and a great acting performance across the board make “Cobweb” an absolute highlight of this year’s Cannes Film Festival that film fans should add to their watch lists.

The movie always manages to go one step further and sometimes goes a little too far, so that it maybe seems a bit exaggerated, but that’s exactly what makes the entertainment value and charm of this movie.

A black humorous and cynical, but serious declaration of love to the cinema!

With “Cobweb” director Kim Jee-woon pokes fun at the Korean cinema of the 70s. The film has elements of a psychological thriller, in which the protagonist always hovers between genius and madness. At the same time, despite all the black jokes and a horror aesthetic, the film also has a great love for the cinema that resonates. Funny, atmospheric and immensely entertaining!
