Call of Duty is known for many things, including the enormous download sizes of its games and updates. Depending on the platform, these have now even exceeded the 200 GB mark. Activision has now listened to the fans and announced countermeasures, some of which are to be implemented as early as August.

Extreme download sizes: As of now, the upcoming first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will take up an impressive 148GB of storage space on the PC. If you’re already choking on this, you’d better hold on to Modern Warfare 3. The current series offshoot takes up a full 172GB on the PC and even 234GB on the PlayStation 5.
Added to this are regular updates, which are often several GB in size. Depending on the infrastructure and hardware, this can lead to endless waiting, full hard drives and frustration for players. How Activision is now announced in a blog post This problem will be addressed with the next update.

With Black Ops 6 in mind, the size of future CoD titles’ downloads will be smaller and you will have more control over what content you download in the future.

This means that some game objects are not stored on your hard drive but are streamed over the Internet. This means that you have to download less overall. However, Activision points out that if you have a slow Internet connection, individual objects may look slightly worse than before.
The publisher also mentions that the upcoming update will still be quite large. In the long term, however, it should allow the game and update sizes to be significantly smaller.

More freedom when downloading: In the future, you will also be able to use the CoD Hub to decide for yourself which content you download if, for example, you only want to play a certain part. When Black Ops 6 is released, for example, you will no longer be forced to download the free Battle Royale shooter Warzone.
