The developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have certainly earned an after-work beer for the release of the Battle Royale mode Warzone. Because the Free2Play decoupling of the CoD multiplayer went through the roof on Twitch: Almost half a million people spread out as viewers on all possible Warzone streams.
Almost 500,000 spectators
The exact highest level is 461,000 at the same time active Twitch viewers, who were on the streaming platform right on the release evening. For comparison: Escape from Tarkov reached (also very impressive) 200,000 simultaneous watchers at the beginning of January. But the top is fiercely contested.
At the moment, League of Legends is once again ahead. Modern Warfare dropped to 116,000 in the morning, LoL stands at 220,000. At Apex Legends, we already saw in 2019 what boom a new Battle Royale can trigger within the Twitch community. The exciting question arises afterwards: Can the developers keep up the hype and continue to fill the game with life?
By the way: Activision makes every effort to keep the barriers of the new Warzone as low as possible. There is not only crossplay, cross-save & cross-progression, but also the Free2Play decoupling of the Battle Royale. So you don't have to buy Modern Warfare to plunge into battle. You can find all information about Warzone in our large call-of-duty overview. And colleague Phil predicts: All other Battle Royale games should dress warmly.
Call of Duty: Warzone livestream: Anyone who wants to take a look at the Battle Royale novelty before diving into the fight has the chance to do so this evening at 7 p.m. on MAX. Be there live on Twitch when Julius, Clape and Yassin find out whether they dominate or go down as a squad.
