Call of Duty: Warzone takes its Operators as a model, takes a good run and then jumps headlong into the unknown. With Warzone 2, a completely new Battle Royale will appear in November 2022, which wants to do many things differently than its predecessor – even if the basic principle remains the same, of course.
In a stream we finally found out a lot of exciting details, such as a third-person mode, that DMZ will be part of Warzone and that Gulag fights will soon be completely different than usual. All information can be found here in this article.

CoD Modern Warfare 2: Trailer reveals multiplayer and Warzone 2
Warzone 2 is not only available on PC via Battle.net, but also via Steam. As a reminder, the same goes for Modern Warfare 2, the first Call of Duty to return to the platform after a long Steam hiatus.

That stays the same
Warzone 2 is Free2Play for everyone again, and nothing changes in the basic gameplay. You end up with numerous other players in an arena that gets smaller and smaller over the course of a round. The Battle Royale is again closely linked to the latest main game, in this case Modern Warfare 2, with which it also shares the engine.
Like Warzone, the successor is protected by the Ricochet anti-cheat program, this time right from day one. This should prevent cheaters from entering as much as possible right at the beginning – they were a massive problem in Battle Royale for many seasons.

This is new in Warzone 2
Now we come to the really exciting information! Makes everything new … November. You know. So what is different in Warzone 2? Let’s go through each area.
Your progress: You start from scratch in Warzone 2. For Warzone 1 purchased and unlocked stuff like operators, weapon skins and perks you are not allowed to take with you. Of course you can continue to use your hard-earned equipment in Warzone 1, the servers are still running (maybe even with new updates).
Die Map: Instead of Verdansk or Caldera, a completely new map awaits you. Away with urban or tropical motifs, bring on the desert! The map Al Mazrah represents a fictional area in the Near East. As in the past, individual sections of the map in Modern Warfare 2 will appear as multiplayer maps.
In the MW2 beta from September 16th you can get a first impression of Al Mazrah, where you play on Sarrif Bay – just in regular multiplayer and not Battle Royale.
Water including vehicles, many different POIs such as a train station, a sunken village or a large city center: As usual, Al-Masrah wants to offer a wide range of different scenes. There should also be a lot of well-known elements to explore for old fans.
For example, the airport on the map is very reminiscent of the popular Map Terminal. Lootable items are also hidden everywhere, even in fixed places, which gives experienced players advantages over time.
Vehicles more important: In Warzone 2 cars and boats are used. Players can lean out sideways, climb onto the roof – and destroy the carts with all sorts of weapons and gadgets. And the helicopters are back too. There’s even a big bird for a whole squad.
Strongholds & NPCs: Fortresses populated by the AI that hide super loot. Squads can move in here, distribute bells properly and then continue the match with heavily packed bags. There’s even better loot on the rare Black Sites, an escalated variant of the Strongholds.
There Gulag: This is where you land if you get shot down on the map and get a second chance. Gone are the days of deadly 1vs1 duels. Instead, you now fight in pairs against two other players, the victors return to Al Mazrah. Difficult to predict how this new system will feel – it might be easier to get frustrated when death is no longer in your hands.
There is more news in the Gulag: The “Jailer” is apparently an NPC who wants to cause problems for you there. Details are not yet known. But we already know that weapons can be found in the Gulag – maybe you’ll take the found equipment back into the match?
AI opponents: Not only human enemies want you on the armor plates, an AI faction is also targeting you in Al Mazrah. That could make for a significantly different feel!
Multiple Death Circles: Instead of a large circle that contracts every few minutes, several death zones await you in Warzone 2. This should make the endgame more exciting. There were similar experiments in Warzone, when poison gas containers were detonated on the map. The circles can split up during a match and shrink back into one circle at the end of the final.
According to leaks, this time it’s not gas that’s driving us, but a sandstorm. This would go great with Al Mazrah’s desert theme! Officially, the developers spoke of one Sturm
. Simple math: desert + storm = Sandsturm.
Here are more impressions of Al Mazrah in our gallery:
DMZ mode becomes part of Warzone 2.0
Reminiscent of Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown, the mode comes as part of Warzone 2, so will also be Free2Play. He shall one sandbox experience
offer, i.e. offer a lot of playful freedom.
On Al-Masrah in DMZ mode, AI enemies are everywhere. We go in as a squad, collect loot, complete missions, hunt down other players at will, and then have to exit the match at an extraction point.
DMZ free mode is also scheduled to launch on November 16th. Nothing more was officially revealed, but we already know more from various leaks and information snippets:

Other innovations: There should be new social features that you can use to share your Warzone experience with others. This time, three games are sharing Battle Pass progression: Warzone 2, Modern Warfare 2, and Warzone Mobile, which is coming later.
Many playful innovations from Modern Warfare 2 should also play a role in Warzone, for example that you can shoot vehicle tires. Underwater fights with their very own physics should play a major role in the main game and are also finding their way into the Battle Royale. We have summarized all the features of Modern Warfare 2 in our preview.
What do you think of the announced changes? Will you switch directly or do you prefer to stay true to Warzone? Let us know in the comments.
