The 1.06 update for Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War not only brought urgently needed nerfs, important stability improvements and long-missing patch notes, but also tons of new problems.
Lots of gamers complain about new ones on social media Crashes and game errors. We also experienced various small and large problems after patch 1.06 for CoD: Cold War during our sessions. The whole range is represented, from graphic errors and connection problems to unreliable hit recording.
This is the problem
Crashes: Many players on PC and consoles report frequent crashes, disconnections and error messages even after the stability improvements.
Grafik-Glitches: Lighting issues are currently a problem for some players. We experienced a particularly severe glitch, which evaporated as the game progressed:
Hit capture: Players have been reporting bugs in the “Hitreg” since the Call of Duty: Cold War beta. Accordingly, sure hits are actually not counted by the game, which can quickly lead to frustration in a multiplayer shooter.
Netcode: Reports of the reverse case, that hits are counted that shouldn’t actually be, also appear. The netcode is probably to blame here, but players with a high ping can also trigger this phenomenon. The problem becomes particularly clear in this video:

Mood threatens to change
In addition to the new bugs and crashes, many players are dissatisfied with various design decisions at CoD: Cold War. While the positive mood prevailed at the launch, read now increasingly angry comments on Reddit and Twitter. Apart from the usual din, there is also a lot of substance in the criticism.
For example, players criticize the comparatively long grind to unlock weapon mods and camo challenges. With the predecessor CoD: MW, leveling up the weapons was even faster.
Many also find the new nerf of the FFAR-1 assault rifle too hard. Update 1.06 significantly increased the recoil, which makes the weapon particularly special Very difficult to control over long distances power. It is quite possible that Treyarch will readjust this again. We also find the weapon almost unusable after the nerf.
The fans also wish more effective measures against cheaters. As with pretty much every multiplayer shooter, videos for Call of Duty: Cold War are making the rounds showing obvious cheaters in the best-play summaries at the end of games. The hacking problem in CoD Cold War has existed since the beta:

This is what the author thinks: Most gamers know from bitter experience that game releases often come with technical problems. The predecessor CoD: MW also had difficulties at the launch, which were then addressed by numerous hotfixes. This is an evil that is difficult to combat, especially in games with a multiplayer aspect, as problems are often only noticeable under the load of live operation. When millions of CoD players practice millions upon millions of game situations, it can happen that errors occur for which the conditions for internal quality assurance did not prevail.
This is not intended to be a defense for buggy releases or patches, rather an attempt to explain. For gamers, of course, it would be best if games were tested so thoroughly that bugs were kept to a minimum. Especially with full-price titles like the annual CoD releases, I can understand the anger in the community.
Improvements are also urgently needed in terms of Netcode / Hitreg. Even if the problems shouldn’t arise all the time, their very existence is downright poison for the mood. After all, you never know whether you have just been defeated because you were too slow or whether the hit acquisition failed. In view of my previous experience with CoD games, I am confident that the developers will finally get most of the problems under control.
