In terms of the price of the next-generation console PS5, Sony does not want to shoot too soon.
As part of Sony's third-quarter fiscal 2019 earnings announcement this morning, company representatives were asked to share information about PlayStation 5, Specifically how the company plans to transform its gaming division to rely on next-generation consoles instead of PS4.
More specifically, Sony was asked to clarify the factors that determine the price of the console and what it can and cannot control.
"First of all, we must absolutely control labor costs, personnel costs. We will certainly control this," CFO Hiroki Totoki said through an interpreter. "How much can we prepare initially, we will produce and sell, and we must prepare the correct quantity."
Tortoki went on to say that factors beyond Sony's control include competition with other platforms, which has prevented Sony from revealing prices and other plans now, as Sony may change some of them in the future.
Totoki explained: "Since we are competing in this area, it is not clear or invisible at the moment, so it is difficult to discuss the price."
"Depending on the price level, we may have to determine the promotions we are going to deploy and how much we are going to pay. So this is a matter of balance."
Totoki also explained that this approach ensures that PS5 is profitable throughout its life cycle.
We may not know the price of the console yet, but some other details about the PS5 have been confirmed. Our story on the link should give you a quick grasp of everything confirmed to date, including PS5 games.
