Concord: Sony is completely closing the development studio

Closing, completely, Concord, development, Sony, studio

The shooter Concord flopped monumentally – and that now has an impact on the development studio: Sony is completely closing it down.

It was a flop with an announcement: After the previous test phases had not met with much interest, the full version of Concord couldn’t score any points either. The number of players was completely in the basement right from the start, the sales figures were not worth mentioning. Sony quickly pulled the plug and discontinued Concord completely after a few days. Since then, one question has remained unanswered: What will happen to the responsible developer, Firewalk Studios?

This question has now been answered: Firewalk Studios will be completely closed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. This emerges from an internal email from CEO Hermen Hulst.

“After careful consideration, we have decided that the best way forward is to permanently scrap the game and close the studio,” Hulst told employees on Tuesday. He then thanked the staff for their creative spirit and work.

In September, Hulst emphasized that a lot of time had been spent exploring all the options for the flopped shooter. At that time he emphasized that the area of PvP first-person shooters was very competitive and that the goals set with Concord simply could not be achieved. They want to learn lessons from this, but will continue to stick to their own live service plans and focus on further growth in the future.

In addition to Firewalk, a second Sony studio is also being closed: Neon Koi. The Helsinki-based developer was previously called Savage Games and was acquired by Sony in 2022 to develop a mobile action game for Sony PlayStation.
