The current global situation combines with the many mysteries that still surround the Xbox Series X and its release date make players and journalists wonder about the launch this year of the next generation of Xbox.
Phil Spencer recently answered questions from CNBC regarding the launch of the Xbox Series X and the release of its games in these times of COVID-19. About the release this year of his next-gen console, the big boss of Xbox remains confident. But the same cannot be said about games:
The teams are doing very well to keep our hardware on track. To be honest, I would say that the biggest stranger is probably game production.
Game production is now a large-scale entertainment business. Hundreds of people come together to make assets on behalf of creative teams. On the hardware side, we are confident about our plans, the schedules have obviously been a little upset but generally we are in agreement with the point where we thought we would be.
With the current crisis so obvious, Microsoft must, like all other companies, adapt gradually. And according to Phil Spencer, the time is not the eagerness:
We learn it every day. I am always confident (vis-à-vis the planning) but I also have to make sure that the most important thing is the safety and the health of the teams and not to push too hard to get things done when they are just not ready. Officially, the Xbox Series X is still scheduled for the end of this year. As the current situation continues to change, it is not unlikely that further developments will occur by the end of the year.
In any case, it would be interesting to discover which games could be delayed due to COVID-19. Microsoft has not yet announced many titles appearing on Xbox Series X, it can always delay them behind the scenes without the public being aware of these reports.
And still about games on Xbox Series X, Microsoft will present gameplay of games from third-party editors running on its new console next Thursday during the next Inside Xbox.
