Construction simulation announced with a refreshingly new setting

Do you remember The Falconeer? It was this action RPG where you fought air battles on giant eagles. The developer behind it, Tomas Sala, is now working on a new project set in the same universe as The Falconeer but in a completely different genre.

Bulwark is namely a Building strategy game with RTS elements and a really exciting setting. Instead of building your eponymous stronghold somewhere on the mainland, you build your fortress up cliffs and connect them across the waterway. You can see what that looks like in the Reveal trailer:

Since the trailer doesn’t have a user interface, we still have no idea how building in Bulwark really works. Apparently we build our cities in a chain over the cliffs and the adjacent sea, which then look really impressive even without beautiful building instructions.

Also in the YouTube description Sala keeps relatively short:

The core gameplay is a mix of Design, Build, Defend. I combine building simulation with RTS elements to offer a fresh take on the Ursee and Falconeer saga. The development will take at least another year. So this is early development material, which I just can’t call “prototype” anymore.

So we don’t know much about Bulwark yet. There is still that some previous videos his new game, which Sala already uploaded to his channel before the reveal and in which you can see more of the bulwark construction. So far, however, there is still no visible trace of the RTS elements.

»You can also make money with original games« – One man, one game, a dead genre

There he talks about the development of his last one-man project and the risks and challenges behind such a step. He also explains why it’s important for him to create every detail himself instead of resorting to procedurally generated worlds. This love can already be seen in Bulwak.
