The chaos at Annapurna Interactive caused a stir yesterday, but the sci-fi sequel Control 2 is said to be unaffected.
Yesterday, Friday, news broke that the entire staff of game publisher Annapurna Interactive had collectively resigned and quit the company. Previously, studio head Megan Ellison could not be persuaded to make the gaming division independent.
This caused concern in the community, as Annapurna had recently finalized a deal with Remedy Entertainment that not only included TV and film rights to Control and Alan Wake, but also a significant part of the financing of the sci-fi sequel Control 2. So is this suddenly in a bad state due to current events?
There is now an all-clear in this regard, as Thomas Puha from Remedy Entertainment shed some light on the matter via social media. “Many of you have contacted us regarding the news surrounding Annapurna Interactive. Thank you for your concern! Remedy’s deal for Control 2, including the AV rights to Alan Wake and Control, has been concluded with Annapurna Pictures and we will publish Control 2 ourselves,” said Puha.
In short: Remedy and therefore Control 2 are not directly affected by the events at Annapurna Interactive; the deal has been concluded with a partner company and is therefore still valid. The wait until the release of Control 2 will be even longer, however, because at the beginning of August Remedy emphasized that the sequel is still in the “production readiness” phase and is therefore not yet being actively developed. Will it be quicker this time than with the sequel to Alan Wake, which took a full 13 years to arrive?
