As early as June, Remedy Entertainment announced that a sequel to Control was being planned, at the time still under the working title Codename Heron. Now it’s official, development is underway.
Control has been a fairly successful title for Remedy Entertainment, selling over three million copies, so it was only natural that a sequel would follow. The developers already announced corresponding plans in June. Now it’s official that Control 2 is in development
“I’m proud to confirm that the larger Control game, aka
Codenamed Heron, Control 2 is a full-fledged sequel to our award-winning game Control,” CEO Tero Virtala said in a statement today.
Control 2, previously codenamed Heron, is to be developed as a pure new-gen title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S based on the in-house Northlight engine. Again, there is a partnership with 505 Games, both in terms of development and publication. While Remedy will publish the game itself for PC, 505 Games will publish for the consoles. The development budget was set at 50 million dollars.
Game Director Mikael Kasurinen is thrilled: “With Control 2 we will take another leap into the unknown. It will be an unexpected journey. It will take a while, but to say the least, this is the most exciting project we are working on I’ve ever worked. It’s still early, but it will be worth the wait.”
However, it will be many months before there are first real insights into Control 2. According to the current status, Control 2 is still in the concept phase, the actual production has not yet started by a long way.
Remedy is pretty busy these days. In addition to Sequel Control 2, a multiplayer offshoot with the working title Project Condor and another multiplayer title are also in the works. There’s also Alan Wake 2 and the remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2.
