After the success of Alan Wake 2, Remedy Entertainment is now devoting itself to continuing the Control franchise – and there is now important news in this regard: The development studio has now secured all franchise rights from 505 Games.
Not only the most recently released Alan Wake 2 from Remedy Entertainment was convincing, but also the previous control. As is well known, the supernatural title will be continued with Control 2 – and the fate of the franchise is now entirely in the hands of Remedy.
The development studio has now announced that it has acquired the full trademark rights to Control from publisher 505 Games. This cost Remedy Entertainment a whopping 17 million dollars. Control 2 is currently in the works, as is another title called Codename Condor – and the studio can now decide entirely on its own in what form these series parts will appear.
“The Control franchise is at the heart of Remedy. By acquiring full rights to Control, Condor and Control 2, Remedy is now able to make the right product and business decisions focused on long-term franchise growth.” , says a statement about the acquisition of the rights.
The studio could negotiate better deals for current and future Control titles in the future; In addition, Remedy would have much more direct control over the direction of individual titles, marketing and distribution.
However, Remedy CEO Tero Virtala also emphasized that the relationship with 505 Games was by no means bad. They enjoyed a good partnership with the publisher, which made Control a successful game that sold more than four million copies and generated sales of around 100 million dollars for Remedy and 505 Games. In the long term, Remedy wants to have more control over the IPs it creates itself and has therefore now arranged the deal. The two future titles Condor and Control 2 have recently made very good progress and are scheduled to enter the next stage of development in the first half of 2024.
