After the cancellation of the GDC in San Francisco and the upset E3 in summer, the corona virus continues to have ramifications in the gaming industry. With Bungie and Microsoft, two well-known companies in the industry have now taken new steps.
Two companies from the video game industry are reacting to the spreading COVID-19 and are now taking further steps as precautionary measures. In the case of Bungie and Microsoft, this will no longer only include prohibiting unnecessary business trips. Rather, one wants to counteract major virus outbreaks in one's own company by working from home.
Bungie's Destiny makers have now announced that all employees will be required to work from home indefinitely. For this purpose, a corresponding infr astructure has been set up beforehand, which should allow all employees to continue their usual activities away from the office without negatively affecting the workflow.
In the case of Bungie, the instruction to work from home applies to all employees around the world, which means that the focus is on the safety of their own employees without endangering the further development of their own projects. In particular, the Destiny universe should not suffer from the effects of the coronavirus. Still, Bungie doesn't want to completely rule out that patch releases for Destiny 2 may be slower than usual. A delay in the "season of the worthy" as well as the exams of Osiris was not currently planned.
In addition to Bungie, Microsoft has also ordered homework at its headquarters in Seattle and at its San Francisco office. This order is valid from now until March 25 and is a reaction to the virus, which is spreading even more in these two metropolitan regions. In Seattle, where Bungie is also headquartered, the death rate is highest in the United States, with ten coronavirus deaths to date.
