Coronavirus – CitizenCon 2020 is canceled – News

This year, many shows have had to close due to the worldwide spread of the coronavirus. After E3, which has just been replaced by the Summer Game Fest, it's CitizenCon's turn to cancel its annual event.

The event in favor of the game Star Citizen which was to take place in California in the city of Los Angeles during October 2020 will not take place therefore. Indeed, in order to take all possible precautions in the face of the current pandemic, the organizers of CitizenCon 2020 preferred to cancel the event.

We have a CitizenCon update for you, but it's not the update you were hoping for. Concerned about the well-being of our community and because of the effects of the current COVID-19 pandemic, we made the very difficult decision to cancel this year's CitizenCon.

The second reason for this cancellation is that an event of this magnitude requires months of preparation. Unfortunately, it is impossible for the team in charge of setting up the event to organize it because of the obligation to work from home.

A show as large and complex as CitizenCon requires months of planning and our ability to prepare for the event has stalled. Furthermore, we are not convinced that California and the city of Los Angeles would allow an event as important as the CitizenCon to occur, even in October. As we monitor the COVID-19 situation with the CitizenCon in mind, we have seen that many governments around the world are still in quarantine, with no guarantee that these measures will be lifted anytime soon. We also felt that it would be unfair to ask you to start committing to preparing and saving for CitizenCon when the event itself is threatened by the current pandemic. To say that we are disappointed would be an understatement, but given the information we have today, we felt that canceling CitizenCon was the only responsible choice to make.

Finally, we learn that the organizers of the event will keep us informed of the situation again in the coming days and that they will share the dates of CitizenCon 2021 at the same time. So that players can keep smiling, the game developers also say that the anniversary of Star Citizen which will take place on October 10 will be maintained thanks to a digital edition.

It will not be a virtual CitizenCon, but it will be an online celebration with our community. So stay tuned for updates on this in the near future.
