With the 49-euro ticket you can use all local trains in Germany for one month. But there are exceptions. The ticket is not valid on these Regional Express trains.
- The 49-euro ticket is not valid on Regional Express connections operated by DB Fernverkehr AG.
- These are ICs in which local transport tickets are also valid on sections.
- You can recognize these connections by a note in the DB navigator.
With the 49-euro ticket, you can use local transport nationwide for a month free of charge from May – including the Regional Express trains of Deutsche Bahn. But there are exceptions. The ticket is not valid on regional express trains operated by DB Fernverkehr AG – even if other local transport tickets are recognized on the trains.
ICs als Regional Express getarnt
The trains in question are IC/ECs, in which part of the route can also be traveled with a local transport ticket, because there is no other local transport service here. These were also excluded from using the 9-euro ticket last year. How do you avoid ending up on such a train?
Technically, these trains cannot be ruled out in the DB Navigator, unlike other connections on which the 49-euro ticket is not valid. If you want to be on the safe side, you should click on the connection in the DB Navigator before starting your journey. Then the operator is displayed, with corresponding connections there was also the note “9-euro ticket not valid” for the 9-euro ticket. It remains to be seen whether Deutsche Bahn will also display this on the 49-euro ticket.
It is possible that this problem will be solved in the next few days. As the track on their website states that discussions are currently being held with the federal states and authorities.
