game news Could this archer pioneer rise from the dead?
The Summer Game Fest was rich in conferences and one of the biggest was certainly the Xbox Games Showcase that took place last Sunday. At the end of the show, Phil Spencer intervened with a t-shirt that obviously didn’t go unnoticed…
Teaser or homage?
We know it : Phil Spencer likes to hide clues in some of his performances.
On Sunday, at the very end of the Xbox Games Showcase, held as part of Summer Game Fest 2023, Xbox’s thinking head therefore intervened with a black t-shirt with the cover of Hexen, a decidedly old-fashioned FPS launched in 1995 and published by id Software (By the way, the Doom developers). Inevitably, it was enough for the community to take notice and theorize a new game, reboot, or remake.
case follows
When asked by Polygon about this particular topic, Phil Spencer came back to this matter, which is becoming increasingly important on the internet. “I didn’t announce the game”he agrees. “I was just acknowledging the importance of some of our franchises.” In fact, the witch license may have been dormant for a long time, released by id Software, a company owned by Bethesda and now part of Microsoft since the latter company was acquired.
Hexen was also developed by Raven Software, a studio currently owned by… Activision-Blizzard. It goes without saying that once the takeover is complete (if it is), the way is clear for the FPS’ resurgence.
However, Spencer would like to soften and calm the enthusiasm somewhat: For quite some time, he has had a habit of making homages to certain games with t-shirts. “For me, wearing a witch t-shirt was more about nostalgia. I’m aware that as our portfolio grows, we have important games that we need to somehow protect and nurture and maybe bring back to a certain point in time.”
So the door is not closed, but we must patiently face our worries and wait for some more concrete news. Maybe one day !
