It sounds like the sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is progressing well, and producer Seth Rogen is very excited about it.

Every day, I quietly say to myself “thank you Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse for making 3D animated movies look great” because it’s spawned some really fun projects like last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. Yes, sure, it’s another IP movie, but at least it’s one that really nails the style – and the truly young cast really brought teenagers into the fold for the first time, adding a whole new take on the classic series. Earlier this year, the film was confirmed to be getting a sequel, currently set for 2026, which will of course introduce the Turtles’ arch-villain Shredder.

Rogen served as a writer and producer on the first film, and he will serve again as a writer and producer on the sequel. He recently spoke with ComicBook about the upcoming film, and while he couldn’t reveal too much, it sounds like the film is certainly progressing well. “There was a title, and it was awesome, but I didn’t think I could say it,” Rogen shared. “But when it came on the screen, I stood up and cheered. There’s an animatic—there’s a storyboard version of the whole movie, so they’re working on it now.” Whether the rest of us would cheer upon hearing that title, I’m not so sure, but it’s still exciting regardless.

Director Jeff Lowe is expected to return to direct the sequel, and in an interview with Empire magazine last year, he said, “Without spoiling anything, [Shredder] Needs to be 100 times scarier than Super Fly… It’s really fun to see these fun-loving characters confront something they probably can’t stop.”

In the meantime, if you want to get more out of this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles adventure, a new game set in the same world, Mutants Unleashed, is set to be released later this year.
