CD Projekt RED recently revealed some truly crazy numbers for Cyberpunk 2077 and its commitment to continuing a program we already know about is very busy.
Cyberpunk 2077 is definitely going far. However, four years after its release, it is a hit for CD Projekt RED, after extensive questioning and a lot of work to restore its image. This is thanks in particular to the 2.0 update and the excellent Phantom Liberty DLC. With these results, the Polish studio seems to be prepared for the future.
Huge morale boost at CD Projekt RED thanks to Cyberpunk 2077 redemption
When it was released in early December 2020, everything seemed to indicate that Cyberpunk 2077 would ruin CD Projekt RED, a studio that was at the top after the brilliant The Witcher 3. Despite all odds, the Polish studio did not give up and is gradually rebuilding its role-playing game in the dystopian city of Night City. And it is clear that this considerable effort was worth it. In his most recent report to investors, the group's deputy CEO revealed: “ 30 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077 were sold in four years, and Phantom Liberty sold more than eight million copies in just over a year ».
So Cyberpunk 2077 clearly experienced a beautiful redemption arc the likes of which we rarely see. This appears to have greatly motivated CD Projekt RED's troops. And given the numerous projects underway, this will be necessary as Unreal Engine 5 is the engine of the future. We can mention in particular The Witcher 4, which has just entered production in Poland with 400 developers. Then we have Cyberpunk 2, in a less advanced state but progressing at its own pace in the studio's offices in Boston and looking to give us an even crazier sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
In addition to these two highly acclaimed giants, we also have a remake of the first The Witcher or even a spin-off that attempts to explore other gameplay mechanics on the side of The Molasses Flood. Finally, CD Projekt RED has other projects beyond video games, particularly around Cyberpunk 2077, with a new animated series on Netflix based on Studio Trigger's excellent Edgerunners, as well as a live-action adaptation. A damn great program that CD Projekt RED is expecting and that we are following with great interest.
